Sad news of the death of Lauries Crusador
We are saddened by the death of this fantastic Celle state stud stallion after several bouts of severe colic. The bay Thoroughbred foundation stallion, who is our own St.Pr.Dalloway's grand sire on the dam's side, has given so much to dressage warmblood breeding over the last 23 years, and who even to this week end has been winning accolades through his progeny. His licenced son Londonderry was honoured as Hanoverian Stallion of the year on Saturday night (October 26th, 2013) - an award Lauries Crusador himself won in 2006, the first time the Hanoverian Society proclaimed a non-Hanoverian horse Stallion of the Year. And over the summer all seven of the horses exhibited at the Hewart von der Decken Shau (the prestigious mare only event for the Hanoverian creme de la creme) in the half bred category, a class of its own, was sired by Lauries Crusador. "This mare is a motivation for all breeders to decide on a thoroughbred stallion," was Dr. Werner Schade's enthusiastic comment about the Champion Mare. State premium candidate Letizia by Lauries Crusador xx x Hohenstein. The second placed was state premium candidate La Vida SL by Lauries Crusador xx/Brentano II. Furthermore a Londonderry daughter Lizeth and her two daughters won the best Hanoverian mare family at the Hewart von der Decken Shau, a class only run every four years, further demonstrating the supreme influence of the foundation sire.
Lauries Crusador xx (by Welsh Pageant xx x High Top xx x Le Levanstell xx) was born here in England in 1985 and started his career on the race track. He achieved a GAG of 90.5 kilogram and was therefore allowed to be considered for German warmblood breeding. The late stallion owner Maas J. Hell discovered the bay and through his contacts Lauries Crusador ended up as a state stud stallion. He served the stud for 23 years. He sired 2,713 foals of which 264 mares became state premium and 55 sons were licensed. His most renowned licensed offspring include Londonderry, Lancier, Laurentio, Longchamp, and Heslegards Louis. No less than 712 offspring have been registered for sport to date. His most renowned Grand Prix offspring include Carola Koppelmann's Le Bo, Ellen Schulten-Baumer's Lesotho, and Marie Line Wettstein's Le Primeur.
